WBC bans Pro's from upcoming Olympics!
The World Boxing Council which is the biggest organization in the Sport, attracted 1,315 delegates plus three hundred local attendees at its 57th Convention, at the Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancun.
The WBC has decided to ban for two years any professional boxer who fights against amateurs in next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games. Its doctors are planning a medical seminar next year. It continues to spearhead the safety of boxers as its number one priority with the recent deaths of 4 boxers in the past few months.
It’s named Vasiliy Lomachenko as Franchise Champion,and presented a lifetime achievement award to ace rival promoters Don King and Bob Arum.
WBC President Mauricio said the Convention reinforces unity in the world of boxing. Gilberto Mendoza the President of the WBA and Paco Valcarcel the President of THE WBO attended the WBC Convention.
The emotional special courage award to Adonis Stevenson, who’s battled so hard to recover from a brain injury sustained at the end of last year.And the Julio Cesar Chavez lifetime achievement presented by his Mum.
Mauricio said there can’t be any complacency as there have been a number of ring accidents during the past two years. The main concern and priority is the physical integrity of the boxer. This includes the participation of trainers, managers, matchmakers and others.
