Miami Nights, Miami Fights! Calderon is BACK

Miami Nights, Miami Fights! Calderon is BACK

33-year-old, Miami fan favorite, Harold ‘The King’ Calderon, (24-0, 16 KOs) is headlining ‘Title Night 2’ in a 10-round welterweight battle for the vacant IBO Inter-Continental Welter Title between Jeovanis Barraza, (22-1, 15 KOs), of Barranquilla, Colombia.

Calderon, an explosive southpaw comes from an impressive performance against veteran, Jonathan Jose Eniz back on March 27, 2021. The last six opponents prior to Eniz came via a knockout.

Harold is one of the hottest ticket sellers in the South Florida area, and in the past has had the support of Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, and local rap artists. The Miami-native plans to put on a great show for his fans, friends, and family, as he seeks the vacant IBO Inter-Continental Welter Title on June 19.

Harold is one of four boys born to Honduran immigrants, Calderon, and his family moved from Chicago to Miami when he was five years old. The rough Miami surroundings made him start boxing and has not looked back since then. Calderon’s love for the sport and his support of the community has gained him a huge following in Miami.

As an amateur Harold won many tournaments, but the highlight of his amateur was in 2013 when he represented Honduras at the Central Olympic Games. Calderon earned a silver medal after losing in the finals.

Harold Calderon remembers his first professional fight in 2013. He was in an open field in a neighborhood in Santiago de Tolu Santiago de Tolu, a small Colombian municipality. His locker room was a local’s house, and in his corner of the ring was a palm tree that he had to workaround.

Now (24-0, 16 KOs), the 33-year-old southpaw welterweight can look back on those humble beginnings in 2013 with pride considering how far he has come. Calderon won 11 bouts before he could take his first professional fight back home in Miami. He had to fight in Colombia and the Dominican Republic and returned to the United States to win bouts in Minneapolis and Louisville.

When Calderon finally got that initial opportunity back in Miami, on Nov. 11, 2016 against Elvin Perez, that’s where he got his nickname, “King.” Since that fight marked his homecoming, he deemed himself a homecoming king. It has stuck ever since.

Harold is looking to make a statement on June 19, and with the IBO Inter-Continental Welter Title on his waist will give him credibility to call out other names in the Welterweight division.
